How time flies… we’ve now been delivering CrossFit Kids classes in Stirchley at SCFIT – Home of Second City CrossFit since September – that’s a whole 6 months of kids fitness fun! So the question is – how’s it going? First up, let’s recap what we’re actually doing, in case you’re reading this blog and wondering what on earth ‘CrossFit Kids’ is all about.
What are CrossFit Kids Classes?
For those familiar with CrossFit already, the name is pretty self explanatory: it’s the same functional fitness methodology you know and love, adapted specially for Kids! If you’re new here though (and new to CrossFit as a whole) then allow us to explain a little further!
CrossFit is constantly varied functional fitness, performed at a high intensity. It’s an accessible, inclusive fitness programme for everyone – and we truly mean that! Its scalable nature makes it a safe and sustainable programme for all ages, equipping you with the functional movement, mobility and strength needed to navigate life and reduce the risk of injury and metabolic disease. Sounds like serious stuff – and it is! But CrossFit also has a thriving, supportive and vibrant community in gyms around the world – and SCFIT is no exception. Our members cheers one another on, root for each other, and form lifelong friendships you often don’t see in ‘normal’ gyms. So it should come as no surprise that CrossFit is awesome for kids, too!
How CrossFit Kids differs to CrossFit
There are a ton of similarities between the adult CrossFit classes and Kids’ CrossFit classes: you’ll see the same foundational movement patterns, variety, and intensity – but the big difference is that it’s tailored to be age-appropriate, and most importantly, FUN. Not that our adult classes aren’t, course ;), but we plan our CrossFit Kids classes to not only be effective but provide a safe, fun and engaging environment to get kids excited about moving. Having a positive relationship with exercise is crucial at a young age, and so we’re all about building their confidence and interest in movement above all! So how are the CrossFit Kids classes at SCFIT going so far?
We’re so glad you asked! It is going incredibly well. The SCFIT coaches are absolutely loving teaching CrossFit to the little ones, and we all get such a buzz out of seeing the whole family benefit from CrossFit. Nothing makes us happier than greeting a family on a Saturday morning and watching the parents join the adult class, whilst the kids get stuck in next door – it’s the perfect start to a healthy, happy weekend!

“Great variety, wonderful direction from Matt and all sessions really challenge the kids. As with the adult sessions, it is a really supportive and encouraging environment for children to grow and flourish. I also love that our daughter has to walk past the adult 4pm class in order to get to her session. She often stops to watch and sees that many women work out, which inspires her to try hard.
