Kids Fitness Classes in Stirchley? Try CrossFit Kids at SCFIT!

Are you on the lookout for fun, engaging kids fitness classes in Stirchley? You’re in the right place! If you’ve been following SCFIT on social media lately, you’ll no doubt know that we recently launched a brand new CrossFit Kids programme! And… it’s a roaring success!

Why are we offering CrossFit Kids?

It’s simple: here are SCFIT – Home of Second City CrossFit, we’re passionate about helping people! We use the CrossFit methodology to deliver constantly varied functional fitness classes, and have been helping adults in South Birmingham get fitter, healthier and happier for over a decade.

But this wasn’t enough for us: we wanted to do more. We know how much our existing members value the gym, and we know that the SCFIT community truly understand the importance of establishing a healthy habit of exercise. Of course, you can start at any time – (and you’re never too old to do CrossFit!) – BUT there’s no denying that the earlier you start, the better – and healthy habits formed from a young age can set children up for success for years to come.

Habits for Life

Our CrossFit Kids classes aren’t just your average run-of-the-mill kids fitness classes in Stirchley: we’ve built our kids programme around establishing healthy habits for life. And it’s not just about getting fit and active – it’s about also about creating a positive relationship with exercise, and getting children excited about movement from a young age! Our Kids classes promote:

Giving it a go: Our CrossFit Kids classes teach children to give it a go – and that it’s ok to fail! We provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages kids to try – to do their best, and that their best is enough. This helps build confidence, not just for approaching fitness in the future, but in everything, and arm them with an open approach to new things as they grow. If we can turn a “I can’t do that” into a “I’ll try!” then we’re on the right track!

Teamwork: Team games and activities will encourage the kids to work together, and support one another. We focus on effort over attainment, and recognise kindness and participation over ‘winning’. These aren’t just skills for the field or sports hall: these are social and communication skills for life.

Moving: It’s as simple as that! Getting kids up, about and moving is no easy feat – and we’re here to help. We want to get children away from the screens and sofas, and excited about fitness – and to see movement as a good thing, not a chore. Our classes aim to engage and entertain, so your children will be asking when they can come back for more!

Functional Movement

Much like our adult classes, CrossFit Kids is all about functional movement. But what does this actually mean – what is ‘functional fitness’? It’s exactly what it days on the tin: movement that serves a real-life function. Picking things up, putting things down, carrying, pushing and pulling – activities and movements that children will use in their day to day lives from playing games, right though to carrying boxes and moving furniture when the time comes for them to move out!

Laying a solid foundation of sound, functional movement from a young age will not only help set them up for success with good movement patterns and posture as they grow and develop, but will also help decrease the risk of injury too – both in their chosen sport(s), and in every day life.

Mental Health & Brain Benefits

On top of all the physical benefits of exercise, CrossFit Kids has a ton of mental health benefits for young ones too. Not only will they notice a boost in their confidence and self esteem, but it’ll also help with concentration, and likely improve their sleep (which in turn will have a positive impact on various aspects of their life!).
