How do you start a fitness routine post-lockdown?

If you do a quick Google search on “how to start a workout routine” you’ll find loads of results.  Some will be from reputable sources, some will be from less reputable sources.

We know that the Mayo Clinic in America know what they’re talking about and they simplify things into 5 steps:

1. Assess fitness level.

2. Design programme.

3. Assemble equipment.

4. Start.

5. Monitor progress.

We totally agree that these steps are crucial but for most people they’re just not simple enough to get them going.

  • Do you know how to assess your current fitness level?
  • What about your programme design knowledge?
  • Do you have the equipment that you will need? Do you have the finances to afford the equipment that you’ll need?
  • If you do start then how will you monitor your progress?

We exist to help people and we definitely want people to start some sort of fitness programme sooner rather than later.

So let’s give everyone a simple starting point:

Go for a short walk everyday.  Every day try and go a little bit further or a little bit faster and you’ll see progress

In the real world getting out and walking everyday is a great starting point for everyone to increase their fitness levels – it requires no special equipment, no warm up and can be done anywhere!

But a lot of people will inevitably get stuck when they want to push things on further – where do you do your research? What should you buy? How do you assess where you currently are? What does progress look like to you and how will you measure it?

We know all this because a lot of people come to us after trying to do all this themselves but they end up more confused than before!

Just like the tip to start with walking, we want to give you an actionable step and a clear path forwards.
