Yes, you can…

What does your choice of language do to you?

We’ve heard countless times before the same few phrases:

  • “I’ll try…”
  • “I need to…”
  • “I can’t…”
  • “I have to…”

Whenever you choose to use a phrase like these (for example “I’ll try and eat a real breakfast” or “I have to go running”) you’re negatively impacting your actions before you even get started!

You wouldn’t set your friends and family up for failure, so why is it acceptable to set yourself up for failure?

What can you do to help yourself?

Step one is realising you’re using these phrases (either verbally or internally).

Step two is reframing the idea to move yourself forwards positively.

So:

  • “I’ll try…” becomes “I’ll do…”
  • “I need to…” becomes “I want to…”
  • “I can’t…” becomes “I can…”
  • “I have to…” becomes “I get to…”

It’s not just about helping yourself, these small changes will undoubtedly help change you but then you will be better placed to help those around you like your family and friends.
