It’s that time of year again—The CrossFit Open is just around the corner! Whether you’re new to CrossFit or have taken part in previous years, this global event is an incredible opportunity to push yourself, challenge your fitness, and be part of something much bigger.

Read on to find out what’s happening at SCFIT during The Open and how you can get involved.

What is The CrossFit Open?

The CrossFit Open is an annual event that marks the start of the CrossFit Games season. It’s a worldwide competition where thousands of athletes—from complete beginners to elite competitors—take part in three workouts over three weeks, all from the comfort of their own gym.

  • Workouts are scalable, with three different options provided – so no matter where you are in your CrossFit journey, there’s a way to take part.
  • Each workout is released weekly by CrossFit HQ, and participants have a few days to complete it and submit their scores.
  • For those who are aiming to progress further, The Open is the first step in the qualification process for the CrossFit Games. But for most, it’s about the community, the energy, and the challenge.

The Open is one of the best parts of the CrossFit calendar, and at SCFIT, we want as many of our members as possible to experience it for themselves!


Why You Should Register for The CrossFit Open

While participation in The Open at SCFIT is open to all members, we strongly encourage you to officially register for the event this year online.

Why? Because it’s THE official CrossFit event that unites the entire global CrossFit community, and we want to play our part in ensuring it remains a highlight in our gym, year after year. The more members we have taking part, the more energy, excitement, and fun we can bring to the event.

Plus, registering means:

  • • You’ll be able to track your progress year after year—nothing is more satisfying than seeing how far you’ve come!
  • • You’ll get to see your scores on a worldwide leaderboard and compare them with other CrossFitters around the world.
  • • You’ll be part of something BIGGER—an event that spans gyms across the globe, all working out together.

How SCFIT is Running The Open

At SCFIT, we’re proud to be running The Open, and invite all members to take part. Here’s how we’ll be running things in the gym:

Friday Night Lights

Every Friday for the three weeks of The Open, we’ll be running Friday Night Lights—a buzzing gym event where members come together to tackle the workout, judge heats, and cheer each other on.

  • You’ll book a heat time to complete the Open workout.
  • You’ll have a judge (a fellow SCFIT member) to count reps and keep you moving.
  • You’ll get to watch, support, and celebrate with the entire SCFIT community!

This is the highlight of The Open at SCFIT, and whether you’re competing or just coming to support, you’ll want to be there!

How the Friday Format Works

  • The 6am, 7am, 9:30am, and 12pm classes will run as normal, but evening classes will be replaced with Friday Night Lights.
  • Instead of a standard class, you’ll book a heat time and complete your warm-up in your own time before stepping onto the floor for the workout.
  • Our coaches will be on hand to answer questions and give tips, but once the heat begins, it’s GO TIME!

Expect an electric atmosphere, an amazing community feel, and a whole lot of high fives.

What to Expect from The CrossFit Open Workouts

Each Thursday evening, CrossFit HQ will release the week’s Open workout. You’ll find out at the same time as we do—so expect some surprises!

  • Workouts will be available in multiple formats – previously, there had been three options: Rx (as prescribed), Scaled, and Foundations. Foundations is accessible to complete beginners, so there is something for everyone regardless of your fitness level, or how long you have been doing CrossFit!
  • SCFIT Coaches will provide guidance on how to approach the workout and suggest warm-ups to help you prepare.
  • Whether you’re going Rx or scaling, every effort counts—this is about testing yourself and having fun! It’s not uncommon for us to join members in celebrating their ‘first’ during the Open – whether it is their first press up, their first muscle up – or perhaps it’s simply their first CrossFit Open! Whatever your experience level and goals, it’s an opportunity to try something new, and who knows… you might even surprise yourself with an unexpected Personal Best!

How to Get Involved

  1. 1. Register for The Open!
    We encourage all SCFIT members to register officially for The Open—it’s an incredible way to challenge yourself, get involved in the global CrossFit community, and experience something special.

2. Ask Questions!
Got a question? Ask your coaches! Just don’t ask what the workouts are in advance—we don’t know either!

3. Join in, however you can!
Whether you’re taking part, judging, or just showing up to cheer, be part of it! Nothing represents the spirit of SCFIT like The Open, and we want you to be involved.

When is it?

Let’s talk details – when does the 2025 CrossFit Open start?

The dates for the 2025 CrossFit Open are February 27th – March 17th. So – your first Friday Night Lights will take place on Friday 28th February. Be sure to register before then!
